Why

Why

There are numerous events that lead to the fruition of this project. Many more than are mentioned here, but these 3 are key. They are in no particular order as they all motivated and inspired me equally.

  • I have always been in the professional hair care industry it has changed drastically over the years.
  • The marketing and depth of products available has become way too complicated.
  • Some brands have over 20 shampoos, multiply that by how many brands there are, and I’m sure you will agree it has gotten out of control.

The original objective of professional hair care was to provide a product to the consumer that was better than the off-the-shelf products available from regular retail stores and was only available from the salon. Now, professional brands and quality are available anywhere.

It has become a competition to who can build the brand to a point that a large conglomerate wants acquire them and take it into the retail environment. This defeats the whole purpose of being a professional product, and leaves stylists frustrated after building the brand.

I truly believe that hairstyling is an art. The tools and products you use contribute to the work you do, but at the end of the day, a stylist must know how to create a style and modify it to suit the client they are working on. If they can’t do that, all the tools and products in the world won’t help.

Our objective is to create a brand that will be committed 100% to the salon and stylist community, and promise never to sell out to the retail environment. We will only be available exclusively to consumers through their hair salons. We also are going to be very active in giving back to our community.

I grew up in a house where there were a lot of financial challenges due to health-related issues. Though I wasn’t completely aware, every day was a struggle and there was a fair amount of conflict behind closed doors.

I realized years later in my life; a lot of my friends were in a similar situation. Not sure if it’s coincidence, but a high percentage of the people I grew up with having less struggles in their upbringing prospered more than those with challenges of some sort.

It is our goal to create a brand that is solely dedicated to the professional hair salon industry and stylists.

Mahdeen Mediceuticals and Hair Care Ltd. will only be sold to consumers via professional hair salons and stylists, either directly through the salon or through the salon’s website.

We will never knowingly sell or support the sale of our products through mass retail outlets or retailers outside of the salon stylist environment.

Everybody working at Mahdeen is a stakeholder in the company and we all are committed to this undertaking.

It is our promise to you that hairstylists will not once again be responsible for building a brand and then having that brand sell out to mass retailers or blame that situation on “diversion”.

Our manufacturing partner is a registered facility with Health Canada and the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA). We found they follow the traditional principles of quality and service, which is not always the case in today’s society. An internationally reputable and trusted establishment, with a wide range of expertise in niche markets and an enthusiastic management team.

Meet Our People

TOM HEINAR

Tom Heinar graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in chemistry. Besides being a respected award winning chemist, he is an accomplished artist www.thomasheinar.com and musician. Not your average chemist, which is why we like him.

During his career he has created leading edge formulations ranging from medical devices to personal care. Tom has been responsible for quality control, analytical chemistry, and research and development of many products formajor, multinational companies.

The majority of his experience is in the commercial field where he has created many successful international brands of cosmetics and personal care products. Tom founded a consultancy specializing in custom formulations for major cosmetic and personal care firms requiring unique marketing strategies.

Most recently, Tom developed products that have been awarded several patents and recognition from the Ernest C Manning Awards Committee for Innovation in Science. His expertise is sought after by companies seeking development for new paradigms in personal care. He brings leading-edge thought and technology to each project he is involved in.

DAVID OKAMOTO

Graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science. He studied aseptic and surgical technique in general and thoracic surgery.

From there, he specialized in urological lasers, earning his laser engineering certification in KTP and Lithium Triboride lasers. He became a clinical trainer on the use of lasers for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and laser lithotripsy.

He has researched new medical modalities and brought many new paradigms in patient care through his association with thought-leading medical firms.

He jointly developed the world’s first antimicrobial ultrasound gel to mitigate the impact of cross contamination during the ultrasound procedure. He has consulted in the market development of skincare regimens and nutritional products internationally, working with government regulatory agencies.

For the past 8 years, he has acted as the President for All Saints Church Homes for Tomorrow Society to provide shelter for the hard to house and tenants with mental health issues. Before that, he was among the group who created the Mississauga Chapter of the Canadian Relief Fund for the Chernobyl Victims in Belarus. He worked to help improve the lives of the children impacted by the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.

He joined Mahdeen to help create new products in personal care including a state-of-the-art dandruff flake shampoo that eliminates the use of zinc pyrithione and coal tar.
